The many personal and professional milestones in my life have been informed greatly by support, insight and guidance from several individuals. CAROLE "CARLY" HUTCHINSON, PhD, MA focuses on partnering with communities to develop public health interventions and conduct research focused on their expressed needs. Current projects include: A community needs assessment for several San Juan, Puerto Rico neighborhoods deeply impacted by environmental disasters such as recent hurricanes and earthquakes; a study focused on the quality of life and wellbeing of people engaged in reentry programming after being involved in the carceral system; and a collaborative ethnography project focused on optimizing interprofessional team performance. Her research spans the fields of anthropology, environmental studies, public health, education, and public policy; she considers peer-to-peer learning and grassroots civic engagement to be primary drivers of impactful social change.  Additionally, she is dedicated to activating students’ interest in and passion for conducting truly equitable and inclusive community-based participatory research.

CARLA MENEZES, MPH, CHES ® is a community health professional based in Brooklyn, New York. She is interested in non-profit organizations with a strong focus on youth, family, and reproductive health. She uses her creativity and team building skills to provide accessible services within the public health sphere, whether those be designing workshops aimed at vulnerable communities, conducting surveys in resource-limited areas, or consulting patients on their future health options and genetic risk.

NORMA GONZALEZ, MPH, CHES ® - When it comes to building community through humor, look no further than Texas native, Norma. From Texas to California  to New York, Norma has worked on projects that meld together aspects of student mental health, community health, educational attainment, and institutional change.  She spent 4 years in the health and education non-profit sector, working directly with disenfranchised communities. During this time, she gained valuable experience in community health, community-based-participatory research, program management, workshop design, and student mentorship. Norma is a chameleon who is able to adapt her skills to settings that serve high school students, parents, university faculty, and/or physicians, all while maintaining her mission to empower the most unheard voices at the table.

YESENIA GRIJALVA, MPH, CHES ® is an alum from the Master of Public Health Program at Columbia University. She is most passionate about equity with regard to access to health resources and education in order for folks to pursue happy, healthy, and fulfilling lives. She is also an avid advocate of self-care and hopes that her work will contribute to a push in society that prioritizes people over profit.
